Climbing Wall Success

On Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th July, a mobile climbing wall provided by Alternative Adventure visited The Willows. The aim of the climbing wall visit, which was funded by our Sports Premium funding, was to build our children’s resilience and self-confidence, giving them a chance to push themselves outside their comfort zone. Every class in school had the opportunity to try different routes on the climbing wall over the two days, with Year 5 having an extra session as a reward for their victory in this term’s Golden Mile running competition.

It was fantastic to see the engagement and enthusiasm of children in all year groups, with even the youngest children managing to scale the full height of the wall. All activities were challenge by choice, with the idea being all children try to push themselves and receive encouragement from staff and their peers, but they are in control of their own challenge and can come down whenever they are ready. By the second and third go, almost every child had managed to go higher on the wall, giving the children an excellent sense of achievement and self-confidence.
