Inter-House Handball Competition

During the week commencing 21st March, every child across school competed in our most recent intra-school competition – Handball. Handball is a fast paced, energetic and inclusive game which is best described as a mixture of netball and football. A football pitch layout is used, with two areas and a goal keeper for each team, but netball rules are followed whereby you cannot move with the ball. The aim of the game is to pass the ball up the pitch and score by throwing the ball into the opposition goal. Children of all ages enjoyed the competitive games and there was excellent sportsmanship on show. To make the tournament more unique, we paired classes to ensure the children were playing within their house team but against children of different abilities and were in teams with children they were not in the same class as.

The results from the Year 1 and 2 competition, 3 and 4 competition and 5 and 6 competitions were all added together to give the overall scores, which were read out in Thursday’s celebration assembly. In 4th place were our Red house, St Teresa. In 3rd place were our Yellow house, St Cecilia. In second place were our Blue team, St Joseph, meaning the overall winners of the inter-house handball competition are our Green house, St John. Congratulations to all of those children in St John, but well done to every single child that participated, showed excellent sportsmanship and played so well!
