Lancashire Commonwealth Baton Relay
On Wednesday 25th May, The Willows took part in the Lancashire Commonwealth Baton Relay. Schools across Lancashire came together to pass a commemorative relay baton from school to school across the whole of Lancashire with the shared mission of raising the profile of The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Children from Kirkham and Wesham Primary School ran from their school to our junior playground, where they were met with a guard of honour from every child in our school cheering and waving Union Jack Flags. The Kirkham and Wesham runners were greeted by our relay runners and after a few photo opportunities, the baton was passed on for 8 of our junior children to run the next stretch from The Willows to Kirkham Grammar Junior School. Lucas, Frankie and rest of the runners shared the responsibility of carrying the baton past the cheering crowds of children and family members across the school grounds, across the church grounds, over Ribby Road and around the fields and running track of Kirkham Grammar Junior School.
Our relay runners did a fantastic job running the distance and passed the baton over to Kirkham Grammar students with pride. Relay runners from Kirkham Grammar School then continued the baton’s journey on to Ribby With Wrea Primary School, as it continues its journey around the rest of the primary schools in Lancashire.
