Welcome to Reception’s page…
A warm welcome from myself, Mrs. Aris, Reception’s class teacher. I am very fortunate to be supported by two wonderful assistants, Miss Dugdale and Mrs. Vallely. I am also lucky to have Mrs. Hayes, Mrs Spacey and Miss Mallinson who take the children when I have my PPA. Together, we work exceptionally hard to make sure your child’s first year at primary school is very special and one to remember!
This term’s Stars!
While Star Award Assemblies may not be as they used to be, we are making sure we still celebrate the hard work, talents and achievements of the children by having a class Star Award celebration on a Friday. Well done to all of our recent Star Award winners.
Things to know about…
Reception is very different to all the other classes in a primary school. We don’t sit down for formal lessons like everyone else, Mrs. Aris listens to what we like, what we enjoy doing and then tailors our activities to suit us.
We also follow a different curriculum, it’s called Development Matters; as the year progresses, we move onto the Early Learning Goals.
Like the other classes, we learn about our faith, Catholicism and we also learn about our bodies and exercise in PE.
On Wednesday we were very lucky to have a Forest School Day. The children took part in lots of outdoor activities and enjoyed eating toast from the campfire and toasting marshmallows.
This week we started our theme of ‘Space’. At the beginning of the week we looked at the story, ‘How to catch a star’. We enjoyed writing about our ideas of how we would catch a star. We then learnt about the planets and created our own space pictures. We also enjoyed making our own astronauts using split pins. What a fabulous week of learning Reception, I am so proud of you!
The children looked fabulous in their World Book Day costumes. They enjoyed taking part in different activities especially the book hunt outside.
A busy week in Reception, planting beans and seeds. We have enjoyed watching them start to grow. We have also enjoyed playing outdoors.
Using Numicon to make 10
This week the children have been looking at numbers that go together to make 10. They have enjoyed using the Numicon to make 10 and recognise the numbers that go together.
Our First Week Back
All the children worked very hard during their first week back at School. They really enjoyed seeing their friends and being able to learn together. It was fantastic to see all the children back in school smiling again.
