Welcome to Reception’s page…
A warm welcome from myself, Miss Ashworth, Reception’s class teacher. I am very fortunate to be supported by two wonderful assistants, Miss Duffy and Miss Forshaw. I am also lucky to have Mrs. Hayes, and Miss Mallinson who take the children when I have my PPA. Together, we work exceptionally hard to make sure your child’s first year at primary school is very special and one to remember!
This term’s Stars!
During these strange times, all of our Reception children at working very hard at home – we think they are all superstars!
Things to know about…
Reception is very different to all the other classes in a primary school. We don’t sit down for formal lessons like everyone else, Miss Ashworth listens to what we like, what we enjoy doing and then tailors our activities to suit us.
We also follow a different curriculum, it’s called Development Matters; as the year progresses, we move onto the Early Learning Goals.
Like the other classes, we learn about our faith, Catholicism and we also learn about our bodies and exercise in PE.
Welcome to Seesaw!
We have now rolled out Seesaw to every child in school. For those that don’t know what this is – it’s an online learning platform that allows us to set various different activities for the children to complete – perfect for the current climate! It allows the children to respond to an activity in a way that suits them best. This might be a recording, a video, a picture or some writing – or, maybe all of them. We have been live now for just over a week and we have already had 3000 pieces of work submitted. Well done everyone for working so hard at home!
On Thursday 26th September, our Year 6 Buddies lead the school’s Welcome Liturgy.
This was a very special occasion as we were officially welcomed into The Willows Family.
Karol and Milli-Lou, our Head Boy and Head Girl called out our names and our Buddy led us to Mrs. Barnett who gave us our Welcome Certificate and a St. Christopher medal.
We then had a very special treat for our families, altogether, Year 6 included, we sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
It was a little scary standing in front of the whole school and our families, but being with our Buddies made it easier.
Meeting our Buddies…
Whilst myself, Miss Duffy and Miss Forshaw work hard to help the children settle into life at The Willows, we find having a Year 6 Buddy helps us as well.
All of the children are paired with a child from Year 6 who we think will help the children grow into Willows boys or girls!
The photos are from when the children met their buddy for the first time.
We love to learn outdoors! We are so lucky to have the woods so close to school that we can explore in. Reception had a fantastic time working in pairs finding insects, they then ticked off what they had found. They were also amazing at counting how many they had found all together.
