Year 4 Sound Experimenting
Year 4 have continued to learn about sound and how sound travels from a sound source by experimenting with instruments this week. The children used a range of instruments to explore the relationship between vibrations, pitch and type of sound produced. The children placed rice on the skin of different sized drums to visibly see the vibrations, they compared the vibrations of different sized instruments and tested the relationship between size of vibration and pitch.
The children then created string telephones and completed a range of tests to determine if sound would travel along the string. Through testing, they quickly realised the string had to be pulled tight in order for vibrations to carry down the string, they were thrilled to find their string telephone carried sound around corners and even tested different length telephones.
