Year 6 – Quidditch Afternoon

On Wednesday 1st December, Year 6 played Quidditch for the afternoon as their prize for winning our termly Golden Mile competition. The children ran over 300 miles as a class, beating their nearest competition by around 60 miles, so by way of reward they were introduced to the fast-paced and energetic game of Quidditch.

After learning the role of different balls involved – the bludger which is used like a dodgeball to get opponents out, and the quaffle which is used to pass and score with like handball, the children took part in lots of small gamers and drills to improve their skills. After this developing their skills with the dodgeball side and the handball sides of Quidditch individually, the children were ready to take part in team games combining the different roles. Staff were amazed at how aware the children were of their differing roles and really worked well together to eliminate opponents and clear a path to score with the quaffle.

A big success – we look forward to playing Quidditch again soon!
