Year 6 World Book Day

On Thursday 3rd March, we celebrated World Book Day in style in Year 6. The children all dressed up as their favourite book characters and completed lots of challenges about our current class book – The Midnight Gang.

Our day started with a ‘Guess The Staff Member’ quiz, where the staff’s faces were blocked from view with a book. Our class winners were Ava, Shannon and Niamh, who all guessed 16 out of 17 correctly! Following this, the children had to design their ideal children’s ward, taking inspiration from the horrible ward in our class book The Midnight Gang. There were some excellent drawings and some very interesting / creative ideas to make the hospital ward a more warm and welcoming place to stay.

After break time, the children had to create their own midnight wish following the theme in The Midnight Gang. Again, there was lots of creativity and explanation on show and the children enjoyed sharing their ideas with the rest of the class. Our final activity of the morning was a giant book – trail testing the children’s orienteering skills. Using the pre-mapped course, the children had to find the 22 hidden book covers which had been obscured to test their knowledge of the title and author of each book. After half an hour in the rain, our class winners were announced as Chris, Kayden and James who scored 33 out of 44!

The children’s afternoon comprised of watching some of the Midnight Gang movie as a special treat and also reading with the Year 2 children to support them in their reading, which was a huge success.

Well done for all your hard work throughout the day Year 6 – it was so lovely to see you all enjoying your reading related activities so much and your outfits were amazing!
