Year 6 WW1 Visit
On Monday 17th October, Year 6 were visited by Sgt. Powell of the North Lancashire Regiment. He spent the afternoon putting the children through their paces joining the army, learning drill before guiding them through the process of signing their attestations and swearing oaths to the King’s army. Sgt. Powell taught the children all about how WW1 started through friendships and allegiances and they then had lots of opportunities to look at the historical artefacts! Shell casings, shrapnel, mess tins and uniforms were passed round, as Sgt. Powell explained all about the conditions soldiers had to live in and handy hints for how to stay safe, clean and well fed in the trenches. The children had a great afternoon and our visit brought our half term’s WW1 topic to a close in style.
