Year 6

Welcome to our Year 6 class page. Below you can find out about some of the exciting things we have been doing in Year 6 as well as keep up to date with all of the relevant information.

Year 6 are taught by their class teacher, Mr Wylde, as well as Mrs Spacey the class teaching assistant. Mrs Spacey teaches during Mr Wylde’s release time on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Miss Mallinson takes us for our music lesson on Friday morning.

In Year 6 at The Willows, our children grow as independent and self-confident learners who are ready to tackle new challenges as they prepare for high school. We firmly believe in engaging and cross curricular learning here in Year 6 and as you will tell from the posts below!

This term’s Stars!

Now that we are allowed to have assemblies together again, we have restarted our Star Award Assembly on Friday morning. This is a very special assembly where Mr. Sharrock tells us how amazing one of our friends has been this week – our parents are even allowed to come! Well done to all of our recent Star Award winners.

Things to know about…

Year 6 is a very busy year, ultimately preparing the children for their next step in education – high school. There is an awful lot for the children to look forward to in Year 6, but we do have high expecatations for our school’s oldest children – with regards to attitude, behaviour and homework.

Role models: In Year 6, our children set the standard for all other children in the school. The Year 6 children will all have a Reception Buddy, who they mentor and support throughout the year. On top of this, the Year 6 children will have positions of responsibility around school and monitor jobs within the classroom to promote independence, leadership, organisation and communication.

Homework: The Year 6 children will receive English and maths homework to complete on Seesaw every week. Homework will be set on Friday and will be submitted via Seesaw by the following Friday.

Reading: It is the expectation that Year 6 children read every night, without fail. I cannot express just how important daily reading is at home to develop the children’s reading speed and reading fluency. The children will pick books from our extensive class library which is packed with high interest books linking to our topics. Reading diaries must be signed daily to show home reading, though by Year 6 we trust the children to do this themselves.
